Summer – May and June

During this time, the Himalayan roads are clean and comfortable, and the temperature is mild and pleasant. This is peak season for visitors and a good time for sightseeing.

Early Autumn – September and October

This time is also considered a good time for travel, as the paths become clear after the monsoon and the hills become lush green.

Monsoon – July and August

Traveling can be difficult for four days during the monsoon due to landslides and rain, so this time should be avoided.

Winter – November to April

Temples remain closed during the winter because heavy snow blocks the roads. Badrinath's Dham also takes a six-month winter break every year.

How to Reach 

To begin the Chardham Yatra, you must first reach Haridwar/Rishikesh. These two cities are the main base for pilgrimage and travel.

By Air

Nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun. From here one can start the journey by taxi or bus towards Haridwar, Rishikesh and then Chardham.

By Train

The nearest major railway stations are Haridwar and Rishikesh. From here you can go to the Chardham route by local transport.

By Road

The Chardham travel route is well connected by road. From Haridwar to stations like Barkot, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, one has to travel as per the route.

Helicopter services also operate here – especially to Kedarnath and Badrinath – which saves time and is convenient for elderly or physically challenged people.
